whatever. I've been living in Brisbane for 10 years and i can tell you, you are dreaming if you think you can find a house to afford on one salary (especially if its even remotely close to the city) Unless of course, you are lucky enough or educated in a field which demands a high salary (and even then, i work with engineers who are paid very handsomely and they still need a double income to buy a decent house.) Rents are expensive and very very competitive. You can expect up to 50 people/couples at a rental viewing depending on the state of the home/area. People are often so desperate to get into a rental property in a good area that they will "bid" for a rental - this is illegal and totally unfair but some agents have no scruples.
The housing and rental market in most parts of australia is ridiculous - overpriced and unrealistic. Food and cars are expensive and so is public transport. Many places require a car to get around - dont forget australia is a huge country (the next closest city to brisbane is sydney, and thats 1000kms away/13 hours drive) and we really do depend on cars to get around.
That being said, Brisbane is one of the most beautiful cities in this country (or the world) and you are an hours drive from the beach or the mountains - the outdoor activities are endless and the weather is divine.
