- While I strongly disagree with the author, I think this article needs to be viewed to understand some of the problems with Stumbleupon.
It's this writer and those like her who are the problem with Stumbleupon. I don't want to be anyone's "traffic." I'm here for my own concerns-- education, fun, and discovery.
Boo hoo. Ghost banning. You don't get credit for discovering a site? Whoop-de-freaking doo. The service is still provided to you.
Xineann's concerns are enlightening-- trying to game Stumbleupon for commercial concerns the way these people are is a big deal. They'll drive all of the rest of us off and they can spend all day thumbs upping each other's blogs and looking at each other's ads.
As far as being "spammed" by "friends", if anyone does that, I unfriend them. Do people not know how to do that?
Also, if this RJJ was sending 4-5 UNRELATED sites without commercial interests, why didn't they UNFRIEND him instead of reporting him as a spammer. There's a big difference between "overzealous user" and "spammer."
I think just subscribing is probably the way to go and using the "What's New" tab to keep up with the people to which you are subscribing is a far superiour method compared to the "Friend" system.

From the page: "The average time spent on a web page can be less than 10 seconds. They tend to look more than they read." Mmm. Pigeon-holing.
