Oh my. I wish this was a higher res.
Planning a trip here for giggles. I wonder if I can get kicked out for laughing too hard?
It's a shame it doesn't seem to be for sale anywhere... definitely fascinating.
I'm fond of the idea and the consideration put into it, but without windows and in a tropical environment, a couple of things immediately jump to mind: insects and humidity. Perhaps this has already been taken into consideration and is simply not mentioned in the article, and I'm no expert myself, but the latter would worry me especially. Things deteriorate in hot, humid climates... can't be good for the furniture. Nor do hardwood floors thick from condensation seem very safe... just idle theory on my part, though.
This outlines a number of good reasons I absolutely hate talking on the phone... I straight up tell people when I give them my number to text me, because I probably won't answer their calls. xD
Wow, is it really necessary and meaningful to release information to the public about locations of where a specific weapon system's ammo is stored? Who could have a use for that sort of information (and not be privy to it in the first place) other than those who would do harm with it? There are good reasons to keep some of this information classified. Security risks can be risks to innocent lives as well.
The way people readily flaunt their ignorance on camera amazes me sometimes.
What a vile little man. A regular modern-day Joseph McCarthy, feeding the fires of ignorance and paranoia to his own ends.
Not a big fan of shock tactics for sympathy, but I do agree that there less cruel ways to trap, even if you're just doing population control and may kill it regardless. There's no reason the animal should suffer like that. The use of exclusion devices and safer wires helps considerably, however.
The wording on their website is rather misleading. They dance nicely around the issue. "AFSC窶s "One Minute for Peace" campaign aims to raise that amount for peace, justice, and human dignity." Part of the military's job is to ensure the relative peace of our country and sometimes even work to bring peace in the wars of others. Often, though admittedly not always, such battles are fought FOR justice and in the defense of human dignity.
And as Bullets stated, them military itself is directly involved in a lot of reconstruction and disaster relief missions, among other things. A prime example was the Hurricane Katrina disaster relief. And you might not there's actually no solid PLANS as to what they intend to do with donations.
Moreover, had to dig into a secondary page just to find a solid statement of what, exactly, was the point they were trying to get across. "... We use two different numbers to drive home the message that military spending is too high..."
A hilarious video of a rather bold octopus stealing a diver's camera.

Heh, guess miracles really do happen sometimes.
