I am an introspective political and social conservative who reserves the right to be wrong. The growing influence of moral relativism and lack of clear logical thinking in society is worrisome. I'm in Information Technology by trade and therefore enjoy all things technical.

From the page: The controversy sends confusing and mixed messages to the lay public. Why is there such a vigorous debate over climate change, even though it isn't getting warmer at the moment? And how can it be that scientists cannot even arrive at a consensus on changes in temperatures, even though temperatures are constantly being measured?

And yet.... we, -- UN member countries, the US -- are forming public policy based on such insubstantial scientific data. First you have factually inaccurate Al Gore with his fallacious movie and now you have political elites trying to move to impose more restrictions and taxes on people to curb CO2 emissions. The left elites often like to refer to themselves as intellectuals yet it seems contrary to even the most casual of layman that they are in fact smart. Just the other day I heard an EU leader clamoring that if we don't do something in the next few days, the world as we know it is over and the environmental damage is irreparable. I have said this many times and will keep saying this until proven wrong but the whole global-warming movement is much less about scientific fact and much more about power and control. If our leaders (and media elites) can convince the populace that the sky is falling then they can pass legislation, ostensibly to 'save mankind' , that will further reduce our liberties as a free society. I am all for clean renewable energy where it makes sense but let's encourage it with carrots rather than beating us with sticks.

From the page: Still, the media treated Biden and Palin differently, he said.

Biden's book "Promises to Keep" became an instant best-seller when he was chosen to be Obama's running mate, but was not fact-checked by the AP and only received passing interest. In a story last year on Biden's Vietnam War draft deferments due to asthma, the reporter notes Biden didn't mention the malady in his book.

Palin is not the standard presidential possibility for 2012, Underwood said.

"She's a figure who's a politician, but also a part of popular culture," he said.

Palin supporters believe 11 reporters poring over every word of her book is excessive- and further proof of the media's obsession and maltreatment of the hockey mom from Wasilla.

"They're obsessed with trying to discredit her," said Adrienne Ross, New York state organizer for the 2012 Draft Sarah Committee. "Because she's a conservative woman, they make fun

From the page: This raises an obvious question: in a world where media fact-check a comedy skit and a book written by a former governor, shouldn't they equally scrutinize statements being made by a man who's actively pushing for the passage of economically impactful legislation currently before Congress?

Or is that asking too much from so-called journalists?

Consider that if Gore was a Republican, his numerous departures from fact would have so discredited him years ago that he would now be considered a total joke.

By contrast, because he's a Democrat who preaches liberal gospel, he can say whatever he wants without any regard for its accuracy and not only receive media's praise for his inexcusable errance, but an Oscar and a Nobel Peace Prize to boot.

2009 National Insurer Report Card. This is a bit hard to read but note the percentage of denials in Medicare vs. the private insurers. It appears these facts contrast the public options supporters' horror stories about how 'greedy' private health insurers routinely deny coverage (ostensibly to make more profit) while Medicare has slightly higher denial rate than most private insurers. Now fast forward and imagine a US where there is a single payer public option and it is budget crunching time. At least with private insurers if claims are denied we have a legal recourse.

From the page: According to the 2008 National Insurer Report Card, Medicare (a non-profit, government run health insurance program) denies nearly 7% of all claims filed. Private Insurers, those greedy corporations, deny less than 4%. And one major difference between a private and public insurance program- when your claim is denied by a private insurer you have a legal recourse in the court system, and, if you win, can get punitive damages. If denied by a government program, your only recourse is in that administration's own administrative appeals process, which is often heavily stacked against you.

Private Insurers are driven, at least in large part, by profits. But that doesn't necessarily equal a bad thing. When controlling costs is a goal, they can focus on lowering administrative costs and streamlining operations. Things that a public plan, with the full backing of the U.S. Federal government, would have no real incentive to do. Look at every federal entitlement program out there- they all cost more every year than they were ever envisioned to cost. How would Pelosi or Obama Care be any different? The U.S. Post Office lost more than 3 Billion Dollars last year, and all they do is deliver mail. Imagine that sort of organization running the most important aspect of our lives- our health.

From the page: On the practical side, Obama has spent more money on new programs in nine months than Bill Clinton did in eight years, pushing the annual deficit to $1.4 trillion. This leaves little room for big spending initiatives.

Wow. How's that for comparison? Spending and the dollar's decline is the single biggest threat to our country's well being.

  • Republicans Edge Ahead of Democrats in 2010 Vote

From the page: "Roughly a year before the 2010 midterm elections, Republicans seem well-positioned to win back some of their congressional losses in 2006 and 2008. Independents are increasingly coming to prefer the Republican candidate for Congress, and now favor the GOP by 22 points. Political conditions could still shift between now and Election Day to create a more favorable environment for Democratic candidates, but a Republican lead on the generic ballot among registered voters has been a sign of a strong Republican showing at the polls in the coming election."

The Democrats can't be as ideologically aloof and separated from the wishes of their electorate as they are now and not expect their support to wane.
