ere are Manning's own words from an online chat: "If you had free reign over classified networks ... and you saw incredible things, awful things ... things that belonged in the public domain, and not on some server stored in a dark room in Washington DC ... what would you do? ... God knows what happens now. Hopefully worldwide discussion, debates, and reforms. ... I want people to see the truth ... because without information, you cannot make informed decisions as a public."
Can't believe I stumbled on this. The word fuck isn't even dangerous or "edgy" any more. It's perfectly tame, as evidenced by the fact that it appears in such sentences as "fucking network" and "educate your fucking client." Yeah, real fucking awesome. I wish there was a stalin around, people like this need to be purged
The great thing about NPR is that they're all about war and mass surveillance of Americans, but they do it in this really bourgeois way. Basically, there's less yelling by angry white men than there is on Fox News, so NPR gets money from listeners who think they're getting unbiased reporting from members of competing right wing think tanks.

"They also confirmed an allegation Ibrahim had reportedly made in one of her emails: That Ahmad Ibrahim, who is in charge of the channel's Syria coverage, is the brother of Anas al-Abdeh, a leading member of the opposition Syrian National Council. He allegedly stopped using his family name to avoid drawing attention to the connection."
Yes, emphasis added. The guy who runs al Jazeera's Syrian coverage is the brother of a SNC bigwig.
Libertarian Koch brothers not concerned with freedom, more concerned about exerting control for profit. Shocking.
Watch the video at the bottom. Irish journalist can't get a straight answer from a useless functionary.
Best victory gloat ever: :Andrew Breitbart went to war with me. I won. Breitbart lost."
From the page: So Andrew Breitbart is dead. Here's what I have to say to that, and I'm sure Breitbart himself would have respected this reaction: Good! Fuck him. I couldn't be happier that he's dead.
if USA Today starts questioning your usefulness, you know you've fucked up
From the page: While successful in his chosen field, Gates has no expertise in the farm field. This is not to say that he and his fellow philanthropists cannot contribute ââ,¬â they certainly can. However, some circumspection and humility would go a long way to heal the rifts they have opened. Beating Africans with the big stick of high-input proprietary technology has never been requested; it will perpetuate neo-imperialism and repetition of foreign-imposed African "failure." Africans urge Bill Gates to engage with us in a more-broadly consultative, agro-ecological approach.

BTW, close family friend in Sweden who knows the girl that is pressing
charges tells me that there is absolutely nothing behind it other than
prosecutors that are looking to make a name for themselves. My friend
speaks rather disparagingly about the girl who is claiming molestation.
I also think the whole rape thing is incorrect for if I remember
correctly rape was never the charge.
Debtors prison's no longer a thing of the past
this article was vague throughout, but this has to be the worst line:
"One of his most popular works titled the Old Man and the Sea was written in Cuba, and told the story of an old fisherman out at sea. The work received the Pulitzer Prize in 1952."
So, The Old Man and the Sea was about an old fisherman and the sea? I'm pretty sure I see what you're getting at. No wonder he won the Pulitzer!
Look, Hunter Thompson wrote the best brief piece on Hemingway; you can find it in The Great Shark Hunt. Basically, as Hemingway got older, the world passed the washed up alcoholic by and he couldn't keep up. Too depressed to keep living knowing that the old world he had come of age and gained fame in no longer existed, the old fucker blew his brains out.
From the page:
Here is the report's damning opening lines: "Senior ranking U.S. military leaders have so distorted the truth when communicating with the U.S. Congress and American people in regards to conditions on the ground in Afghanistan that the truth has become unrecognizable. This deception has damaged America's credibility among both our allies and enemies, severely limiting our ability to reach a political solution to the war in Afghanistan." Davis goes on to explain that everything in the report is "open source" - i.e., unclassified - information. According to Davis, the classified report, which he legally submitted to Congress, is even more devastating. "If the public had access to these classified reports they would see the dramatic gulf between what is often said in public by our senior leaders and what is actually true behind the scenes," Davis writes. "It would be illegal for me to discuss, use, or cite classified material in an open venue and thus I will not do so; I am no WikiLeaks guy Part II."
all of these books suck

What we are seeing in Syria is a deliberate and calculated campaign to bring down the Assad government so as to replace it with a regime âoemore compatibleâ with US interests in the region."
Major corporations "lobby" the ICE to take down websites for the crime of sharing data.
"So, if you've ever wondered what a Radley-Balko-style libertarian paradise would look like, a frontier town where rent-a-cops keep the peace, just fly to Mt. Hagen, to many happy evenings pacing around in your own little courtyard of ferns, mantises and privatized safety."
