A win for homeless encampments! In 2006, the city of Woodinville denied a permit application to host a tent city at Northshore United Church of Christ, on the grounds that all temporary use permits were under moratorium. July 16, 2009, the state Supreme Court ruled that they were wrong in doing so: they had a right and duty "to impose reasonable conditions on the Church's project to protect the safety and peace of the neighborhood," but not to categorically prevent the Church from exercising what the City itself concedes is religious practice.

"Republicans like to complain about welfare handouts: how they make people lazy, how they break down the family, how they lead to criminal behavior. Fair enough. But what about the old money rich? They get checks in the mail without working as well: dividends, rent, interest, capital gains, trust fund stipends..." it all comes out of working people's pockets, and it leads to criminal behavior.
