some idiot that has spent a hell of a lot of time trying to make people believe that dinosaurs are still around, and that the earth is 5000 years old.

    heres a clip...

In their continuing efforts to make a case for the "intelligent design" of biochemical systems, Michael Behe and others have compared such systems to mousetraps. By invoking an ordinary object like the mousetrap, they hope to explain their concept of "irreducible complexity" in terms that people can easily grasp. Here's an example of how this comparison is made:

"A good example of such a system is a mechanical mousetrap. ... The mousetrap depends critically on the presence of all five it its components; if there were no spring, the mouse would not be pinned to the base; if there were no platform, the other pieces would fall apart; and so on. The function of the mousetrap requires all the pieces: you cannot catch a few mice with just a platform, add a spring and catch a few more mice, add a holding bar and catch a few more, All of the components have to be in place before any mice are caught. Thus the mousetrap is irreducibly complex." [MJ Behe, 1998, "Intelligent Design Theory as a Tool for Analyzing Biochemical Systems," in Mere Creation, p. 178]

The Big Questions: What is consciousness?

The philosopher Derek Parfit put it starkly: we are not what we believe ourselves to be.

Actions and experiences are interconnected but ownerless.
A human life consists of a long series - or bundle - of enmeshed mental states rolling like tumbleweed down the days and years, but with no one (no thing) at the centre.

An embodied brain acts, thinks, has certain experiences, and that's all. There is no deeper fact about being a person. The enchanted loom of the brain does not require a weaver.

Ive been saying this for years.

We are different people every day.

Brain cells die, and electrical pathways change.
So, the idea that theres a SOUL is nonsense.

I think for our species to survive, we need to throw away these notions of religion
and the soul. If not, it will be our downfall.

We are animals, like other animals on this planet.
We have DNA, tissue, and bone.

At this pointy i have to look at the hypocrisies of the human spirit.
We look at things like "conspiracies" and think how outrageous they are.
We look at things like Aliens and UFO's, and think that one must be crazy to believe in them.
Not to mention one religion looking at another and thinking they are outrageous.

So what is so strong in the human spirit to make us not want to believe whats before our eyes ?
What makes us look at reality and want to see something else ?

I think it has to do with not wanting to take responsibility.
    For what you ask ?
For the future of mankind my friend !

Is the human race to survive ?
Well, thats not up to us is it ?
    Well, YES, it is.
Many other creatures have perished on this planet, many that have tried to adapt to changes, but at some point , for some reason still didnt make it.

Its very possible that we wont make it either, even IF we learn to live together without killing each other. A meteor could hit us tomorrow wiping the human race off the map.
Its possible too, that before that happens, we could learn to leap into space and develop colonies on other planets.
Just like any other species, its in our nature to survive and procreate...

CURVIER women may have smart children because hip fat contains polyunsaturated fatty acids critical for the development of the fetus's brain.

Using data from the US National Center for Health Statistics, William Lassek at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania and Steven Gaulin of the University of California, Santa Barbara, found a child's performance in cognition tests was linked to their mother's waist-hip ratio, a proxy for how much fat she stores on her hips.

Children whose mothers had wide hips and a low waist-hip ratio scored highest, leading Lassek and Gaulin to suggest that fetuses benefit from a rich supply of useful fatty acids (Evolution and Human Behavior, DOI:

Progresswear: Intelligent Design Isnt T-Shirt and Tank [progresswear.com]

    Intelligent Design Isn't.
"Intelligent Design Isn't" is one of our best sellers. I wish I could say I coined the phrase, but I'm sure thousands had uttered it before me. Months after designing the shirt I came across a New Yorker article by H. Allen Orr entitled nearly that, "Why Intelligent Design Isn't."

My mother loved our themes, but not this one. She told me that she felt the one which smugly states "Intelligent Design is Stupid" implied that I felt God was stupid. I bit my tongue lest I inform this woman who brought me into a very Catholic world that I had little time for gods these days. I stated that those who were trying to get the theory of Intelligent Design taught in schools were scientific dolts grasping at straws to bring God into the public classrooms of America.

While we high five each other as school boards, starting with Dover, are struck down in their attempts to meddle with local curricula, hundreds of other cases are brought monthly, virtually strangling science education in America. My sister's best friend, a science teacher in my hometown is forbidden to teach evolution. If you think we're winning this particular battle, guess again.

As if by divine intervention, the first woman to buy this shirt was Jennifer Miller, the Dover, Pennsylvania middle school science teacher at the center of the maelstrom. Look for her in the forthcoming book "Into the Great Divide" by Matthew Chapman, great-great-grandson of Charles Darwin. The book expounds on his excellent Harper's cover story, "God or Gorilla?".

Jennifer has volunteered the services of her fellow science teachers to proudly sport our attire at various science education functions. I've promised her a whole wardrobe of ID related themes and now that we're expanding our women's lines its time to deliver on that.

We want to get out on the streets of Philadelphia and shoot people in crowds, but I also want to take advantage of what our messages mean in the context of the history of this burg I call home. Ben Franklin's Grave. Independence and Carpenters Halls. The Liberty Bell. All great locations until the Boy Scouts with Guns, aka the Federal Marshals who comprise a virtual army in the middle of this city, chase us out or worse, arrest us.

Just as people in Anaheim yawn over having Disneyland in their backyard, Philadelphians are often guilty of treating this nation's birthplace with an equal smirk, cursing at the tourists we trip over daily. Never visiting these treasures unless we have family in from out of town.

Living smack dab in the middle of history central for five years gave me a rare appreciation. Walking my dog through the various parks and buildings spread over a good part of Center City forced me to think daily about these amazing, crazy men who started this American Experiment. They were the most radical of souls, and they're all spinning in their graves as the theocrats steer us back to the middle ages. Every American needs a kick in the ass tour cum Constitutional seminar of this city, replete with in-your-face quotations about the founding fathers' utter conviction to keep religion out of our government."
