I am a cancer survivor. At 18 I was diagnosed with AML - Acute Myeloid Leukemia. I beat it but it took a year of my life away. I came close to dying during a procedure. My body temperature rose to 106, I was convulsing uncontrollably and was catatonic. While this was happening time slowed down, everything turned pink and purple and I knew I had a choice. I was presented with 2 paths, one ending the suffering and pain through death or endure the pain and return to life. The 1st choice sounded pretty good at the time, but my mother was in the room - I can only imagine what it was like for her to see her child in this sickly, dying state. She said my name and I immediately thought "I can't die in front of my mom!" So I made the choice to fight.
Upon reflection I remembered feeling cradled by something that transcends physical reality. I felt comforted by this "thing" and didn't experience any fear or regret with either choice I would have made. I don't know what it was, I can't remember a voice - it was the purest feeling I've ever experienced. An instance of a pure feeling that made me feel connected to everything.
I find it cute that I see so many people searching for a sense of themselves, the universe, god, love. Love. You guys need to stop searching. The answer is so simple. Look around - life is the gift. Love everything in it every second you have. Every millisecond of light entering your eyes to be processed by your brains should have the weight of planet-sized-love! It can be taken away at any moment. Would you feel you loved life if it was removed from you tomorrow? If it is removed from you - do you think you'd be lucky enough to come back?
Cancer was the biggest fight of my life and at the same time the biggest gift - and I'm sharing it with those few of you who read this.
