From the page: "I am writing this as a person who has not spent a single day in my (almost) 38 years without health care coverage - good health care coverage. For many of those years, I never gave it a thought at all.
I grew up with parents who worked hard, and gave their children everything they needed to succeed. If I had a cold, I went to the doctor's office. When my brother broke his arm, he went to the emergency room, and the next day to the orthopedist, just to check it out again. If we needed medicine, my dad just picked it up at the pharmacy on the way home.
On Feb. 25, 2002, what I had once considered a given, one of those things that just was and always had been there, became something of immeasurable value to me. We were told our son, Jake, then 8, had Type 1 diabetes, and he was sent straight to a children's hospital."
