With this new drop down menu they have all the sites we have thumbed up all neatly categorized. I noticed that I'd apparently thumbed up 4 atheist sites. I didn't remember doing that so I checked... they've listed the universalist/unitarian sites I've thumbed up as "atheist".

Has anyone else noticed the same thing?

I know there's prolly a few atheists that consider themselves Unitarian but none of the Unitarians I know are atheist.

What do you guys think?

Doesn't seem to fit at all... But then again, SU has some rather peculiar quirks in their categorizations.

I'm getting the sense that "humanism" might be the best categorization for Unitarian-Universalism. You can compensate for the shortage of built-in StumbleUpon topics by using tags/keywords in the newest StumbleUpon toolbars.

The following is a link to an essay that discusses humanism and Unitarian-Universalism in the context of humanism: jcn.com/humanism.html [jcn.com/humanism.html]

I'm an athiest and still consider myself a Unitarian... But that's the beauty of a religion that accepts atheists, too. But, then, I hardly think thats grounds to classify all Unitarian as Athiests. Most of them aren't.

UU's come in many shapes, sizes, and colors, which is what it's all about... As an example, I generally consider myself agnostic, my GF is pagan, and yet we belong to the same church. To my knowledge, there isn't another denomination around where that would be both possible and reasonable.

Well, when I thumb a site that's not a listed denomination, I usually choose "religion." So, if SU miscalssifies a UU site, change it!

I agree that most U*Us are no longer atheists but unfortunately there are still a fair number of anti-religious militant fundamentalist atheists hanging out in U*U "churches" who seem to have nothing better to do than make life miserable for God believing people.

One thing that makes UU-ism so wonderful and inclusive is its welcoming of people of all (life-affirming) beliefs, whether theist, agnostic, atheist, etc. In fact, according to the wikipedia article, about 18% of UU's consider themselves to be atheists. I do know a few members of my congregation are atheists, and fortunately they're as respectful of theistic belief as others are of atheistic belief. However, the majority of atheists of my acquaintance are not UU's. Thus, I agree with kamesan that UU pages often fit best under a 'humanist' category, though 'religion' works fine, also.
