Apparently, the editorial is by a guy named Todd Smyth (sounds kinda pseudonymous, tho... and I never heard of him, anyhow).
Anyways - seems like someone wiser than I once said "believe nothing you hear, and half of what you see", their statement has never been more true than in the current era. The difference is that now, the truth is generally out there; but available only when you contrast and compare different news sources.
I don't think that discrediting the corporate media is being anti-nationalistic (although 'nationalism' is certainly not entirely a good thing in the first place), read the post... simply put, they're beholden to their benefactors (eg. defense contractors); not their audience. And they have little reason to be straight with the facts; they are more interested in influencing the lowest-common-denominator portion of the public that their agenda is actually 'news'... does anybody else agree that this qualifies as 'brainwashing'?
You don't really believe that criticizing the bastard whore media is criticizing the country, do you 10? If this is true, there sure are a whole lot of 'republican' pundits and polemics who are America haters by that definition.
... it is a dangerous thing to look at the news media as a 'ministry of truth', unless that term is taken in it's Orwellian sense ;)

I would go so far as to say that it's possible to hate the US media, US government and US mega corporations, but to still like America. None of those things are good things. It's like being British, I can have some pride in our achievments but still hate Blair, consider the ITV station to be drivel and question what I'm told.
No, I think I wasn't clear. I ment the inverse of what you perceived. The fact of the matter is 83.2% of the media market share is 1 corporation. Chear Channel. They spun out other companies so they wouldn't be a monopoly but are infact a monopoly. That is scary and what is even more scary is that they are very anti-nationalist and do everything you just said and control almost everything we see, hear, and watch.
I think that this group is a great one because it promotes independent thinking awa from the verbal diarrhea that id forced down our throats. Sorry if you misunderstood me but I was trying to make a similar point to you. I was just stating that the facts seemed slanted.
Some of us in the US think that our country was saved by a resistance to apathy by a small fraction of the population of the North American British colonies. I believe these are still good ideals even after 200+ years.
14) I just re-read your post and discovered that I was a bit ignorantly reactionary in my reply... sorry 'bout that. I just enjoy being disagreed with, it makes me keyboard happy and distorts my post-reading ability.
It's Christmastime, you may have been programmed. Do you currently, or have you ever had thoughts of polar bears, penguins, and ice floes for no logical reason?
