Well, I agree it's kinda spammy, but I think that with 2700 members it is unlikely that they all know everything. There are maybe 15 people who actually post here, and it's partly because people get jumped on when they don't keep it at a pro level.
I really think this group should be open to anyone who's interested in taking things to the next level, even if they are only now considering security issues at a basic level.
However the 15 people that post are also the 15 people that actually visit the group and read the threads. The rest mostly just the group as profile decoration.
Then maybe these aforementioned not-pros need to l2internet or Gb2 another Computer group which will help them with their basic security issues just fine.
90% of the people who join this group saw Hackers and thought it would be pretty cool to get with Angelina Jolie, subsequently joining this group.
When people who don't know much about computers start to mess around with the intracacies of computer hacking without a solid basic networking and OS foundation, As well as the cognitive maturity to understand the consequences of their actions, As well as not being general all around idiots who ask for technical support on every little thing.
It goes something like this
Hai gaiz, Mah name is Billy, and I think computer hacking is reallz k00l, Just like teh movie hax0rs. can you halp meh break into skool computerz so i get teh wimminz?
Oh yea, I don't know much about SQL Injection or Buffer Overflows, But I read ESR, and he validates me, I've been a 1337 haxor my entire life, Even when I was in the Womb, Hardcore, strait-edge for lyfe. Say no to drugs.
{Real Post from a real "Security" website}
