Most options in about:config can be changed with extensions. It just depends on what you want changed. There's probably an extension for what you're wanting.

Do you have a link or anything with a walkthrough to fixing it through about:config?

Those are both good links. I wasn't aware of this little trick.

I wouldn't worry too much about hurting anything Rose.

Here's the same fix with slightly more human wording. It's from a post by GreenKnight on the MozillaZine forums:

"Just enter about:config in the Location Bar, right-click anywhere on the page that comes up, select New/Boolean, enter config.trim_on_minimize as the preference name, click ok, set to True, click ok, then restart Firefox. Then you'll only have to minimize for 2 seconds when you need to release memory."

I did a little searching, but couldn't find an extension that did this.

Here's the knowledgebase entry about config.trim_on_minimize:

kb.mozillazine.org/Config.trim_on_minimize [kb.mozillazine.org/Config.trim_on_minimize]

This fix will most likely slow things down for you though. It causes Windows to write all the data Firefox has in RAM to your hard drive's paging file. Then when you restore Firefox it has to write that back into RAM from your hard disk as it's re-requested.

Does anyone know the preference for making the spell checker globally check all fields,? I can't find where I found out which one it was, and since my firefox decided to revert all my changes to default, I need it again.

I'm a terrible speller, I need it! lol

edit: I think I found it layout.spellcheckDefault: set to 2

How do I change "time out connection" window from taking up a browser page and instead open up another small window telling me?

I believe its changed in about:config, I knew I did it at some point in the past
