I despise so-called journalists who resort to phrases like "No one could turn a phrase like Oscar Wilde". Sophistry does not a catch-phrase make.
How's that for pompous phraseology? It correct, but it's virtually meaningless.
Samuel Clemens and quite a few hundred thousand other authors throughout history could bandy the hell out of Oscar Wilde. Stating the obvious does not a poet make.
"I am the only person in the world I should like to know thoroughly." Smartass? Self-absorbed charlatan is closer to the mark.
