"To take a "Matrix" metaphor, this podcast is one big red freedom pill."
"In 2006 Stefan Molyneux quit his previous job in the field of computer software to be able to work full-time on Freedomain Radio, a philosophical community website"
(Criticism and Controversy)
The political vacuum of anarchy never lasts and always degenerates into some form statism. This site's author is an fool to be ignored.
I, for one, believe in the power of the rule of law to protect goodness of individual liberty against the evil inherent in dictatorships/oligarchies/socialism.
From the page: "Powerful ideas for all lovers of personal and political freedom - Freedomain Radio is the largest and most popular philosophy show on the web, and was a Top 10 Finalist in the 2007 Podcast Awards. Topics range from politics to philosophy to psychology to economics to relationships to religion - and how to achieve real freedom in your life today. Passionate, articulate, funny and irreverent, Freedomain Radio is a stimulating podcast that shines a bold light on old topics, and invents a few new ones to boot! 4 million downloads a year!"
Powerful ideas for all lovers of personal and political freedom -- Freedomain Radio is one of the highest-rated podcasts on PodFeed.Topics range from philosophy to psychology to art to how to achieve freedom in our world. -- HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
He does not believe in central government. On socialism, he provides examples of a poorly applied socialism (art subsidies in Canada etc). People, like animals, want simple things. Time with our family and friends, sex, food etc. The system which best provides this is the best system. Stefan says a world where nothing is public is the way to get this. His idea is that private organizations called DROs will allow people to collectively maintain parks, and things like that, like a gated community.
Listened to about 5 lectures. Stefan's lectures are fun and interesting, if a little fast and loose.
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools
It was one of the best things that I happened upon this site. I first saw Stefan Molyneux on You Tube and I was completely enthralled. I've yet to hear more rational arguments from a single person in my entire life. If you want a site that is based upon reason, this is the one you've been waiting for.
very interesting podcasts
Try it out. The articles, the podcasts, the board discussions, the Skypecast/call-in shows. Be prepared to experience rationalism like you didn't know existed. Be prepared to apply the logic of personal and political freedom to EVERY aspect of your life. Freedomain Radio is disorienting and scary - and it's by far the most important intellectual challenge of my life.
I came across Stefan Molyneux's writing a while ago and always throroughly enjoyed the content and delivery. With this in mind, I tentatively started to listen to his work in podcasts, a format I generally despise, and much to my surprise I actually made it through a few.
I'd prefer to read it, but I suppose he has to satisfy his voracious fans :) Anyway, if you like podcasts; listen. Otherwise read his articles.
Update:Things are now quite bizarre. It is all a bit "cult" like, with Molyneux as the leader of a strangely devoted flock, bizarre pressure to drop family associations and a weird group therapy/confessional vibe.
Good articles and early podcast but my advice is to stay clear of the forums and latter shows.
I love FDR! It helps to listen from the beginning, and to listen as well as understand. you really cannot make assumptions with this stuff, you have to be sure, so I recommend jumping over to the forum for constructive debates. People, such as Stef, who is always willing to explain, really get your thought juices flowing. I would like to point out also that the sign on the front of the page says "words knot guns" its a play on words that goes directly with the picture it describes.
For every being truly in love with ideas, and wholly committed to the pursuit of ideas like happiness, virtue, truth, beauty, and love, as principles, there comes a time when an unavoidable choice must be made: Face your fears and leave the cave of ignorance, or remain forever enslaved to the dream of what might have been.... Now, there is no need to make that choice alone. Let Stefan Molyneux lead you out of the cave, and guide you step-by-step into the radiant light of knowledge and wisdom..... In this way, the work that Molyneux is doing differs dramatically from other "pundit" and "scientist" critiques of modern society. He begins with genuine first principles based on his own blend of rational and empirical metaphysics and epistemology, and extends that into a universal ethic that completely reshapes the way we understand the three most fundamental building blocks of all human social structures: politics, religion, and family..... Be forewarned, though: if you are not yet prepared to take such a journey, you may just want to skim the surface for less troublesome topics.... But if you ARE prepared, get ready for the ride of your life! Molyneux will take you far beyond the mere everyday sniping of democrats and republicans, atheists and Christians, and propel you far out into the interstellar space of true personal and political freedom.... Freedomain Radio is proof positive that IDEAS REALLY DO MATTER!
The most intellectually invigorating site I've found yet. I seriously can not get enough. If you are a rational thinker who is on a personal pursuit for truth then you should definitely check this stuff out; you really can not afford to pass it up. The podcasts are simply amazing. Stefan Molyneux covers such a wide variety of topics from economics to religion to family relationships with such wit, humor, and clarity that you walk away feeling like a genius. Be prepared to question your every cherished belief about the world and maybe even get a little fired up in the process. Got something to say about an idea expressed in the podcasts? The FDR board is full of lively discussions with an impressive community of opend minded and highly intelligent members. I can't say enough about freedomainradio.com. Do your brain a favor and check out the 700+ podcasts for yourself!
