Great Webcam, Having just spent the last winter in Chelyabinsk at -40C I can appreciate this. Check it out in the Antarctic summer the ice melts and reveals the shoreline.

Now here's a great webcam. Positively warm down there tonight, at minus 2.3 degrees Celcius.

This webcam's outlook changes a bit over time. Encourages you back to see a bit more. That's if it is not blowing at 167 km hour...with zero vis.

I remember listening to two expeditioners who were very friendly with each other. Both were at Australian Antarctic Stations, but different ones.

They were using a Royal Flying Doctor Service frequency to chat. Off channel for them, but on-channel for us that night.

I was really very excited: I don't have my amateur licence, and that was my first contact with an HF radio operator on another continent...legally!

I listened for quite a while...they were definitely based down there, one at Mawson, the other perhaps at Casey, perhaps in the field. And they were very friendly, man and woman..

I joined in, in a very friendly manner, but unfortunately spooked them when I acknowledged where they were calling from, and where I was (on the border of New South Wales and South Australia).

They immediately said their goodbyes and that was they last time I ever heard from Antartica on my SSB HF radio with eight Flying Doctor Radio frequencies.

Reminds me of a member of the Australian Greens who was the first female wintering-over expedition leader for the Australian Government in Antartica. Interesting stories to tell.

Like a good number of my uni mates who have also been down there. Haven't quite worked out how I'll get down there, yet...
