Adding vodka to gelatine solution is more about adding cold/room temperature water rahter than alcohol. They should have tried making a gelatine-hot wather mixture with minimal amount of water (just enough of it), and then pour some really high-proof liquids - tequila, absinthe or just plain spirit (96-98% of alcohol, as high as it gets)...
