Free to Love
What if we were free to love?
Without starting in fear, and ending in pain?
Would it come too easy?
With too much freedom, and too little shame?
Unanchored from forever, loving now,
with this breath. Wide open and raw,
Sincere and intent in every touch,
bare in every kiss. We know no law.
To tell you I love you, and mean it
as the words roll to your ear
is more to me than all that pomp
the dance, the promises that bring tears.
'What if? ' and 'Why not?', my love. They keep me up at night,
Better company than worry, better lovers than doubt.
They do not wear on my heart, or tear at my guts.
Alone with you some night, I'll have courage to bring them out.
