While I'm not a survival nut, I am of the firm belief that it can never hurt to diversify one's skill set not only in the office but also outside as well. There's also some entertainment value as well. Techniques to create fire from the back of a soda can as well as their experiments in creating in ice lens (fire from ice essentially) are all well worth the read.
