Interesting fact. In many cases, the death penalty is more costly than life in prison. This is due to legal factors and other things. Psychology has shown that in many cases, punishment is either not an effective deterrent or creates more problems than it solves (creating angry people, for instance).
I'm opposed to the death penalty as a government practice. I'm not against it in principle. I just think the negatives outweigh the positives. In certain situations, it could be permissible. It's just not likely that a government would successfully implement even the most carefully written policies.
