Nice overview - even if it did bring back bad memories by reminding me of job I had where I had to work in Fortran 77 - it is truly horrible, and shows just how much progress has been made since then.
The computers in this don't relate to the languages much, if at all. The ordering and selection of them seems random, except for a loose chronological ordering. To nitpick, the programming examples aren't in all cases displaying acceptable syntax; they wouldn't compile/run on the original implementations. Additionally to claim that a language(C for instance) "was developed between" is flat-out wrong considering that languages evolve. C99, C++0x and Object Pascal are examples of this.
All in all, I learned nothing.
Quite the tour-de-force in trolling. I've never seen a troll this high brow before. The toy computer next to the C programing language was a riot, then the PERL next to a Mac 128K (apple logo shopped off). This is a real troll work of art. Nearly all the other pictures are quite out of place as well. And as everyone should know, QWERTY was designed to SLOW down typing speeds (to prevent typewriters from jamming).
I've got to agree with erkaer here.
I'm right there with fgbfx, as soon as I saw "The QWERTY keyboard was invented to speed up typing," I stopped reading, I figured everyone knew since grade-school that the exact opposite of that is the truth, whoever wrote this needs to go back and re-read computer history, or simply post it under satire.
thumbs-upping even though the last "language" is rails which is not a language and is much less important that you web programmers think.
