This has been a moral dilemma that I have been struggling with a lot. I think using the golden rule is a good way to guide one's actions, but unfortunately it really isn't that simple. Is it really possible for me to put myself in their shoes and say what is best for them? And how do I know that they are being honest in what they tell me? I think acting like every beggar I pass on the street is just going to use the money I give to buy drugs is foolish. But I know some are. Not sure what the answer is. I guess one could just give money regardless, but it's not as if I can afford to give money to every person I pass on the street.
