Good books on the List. 1] Lord of the Rings. 2] Harry Potter 3] Narnia 4] Amber 5] Dragonsong/Singer etc. The rest are mediocre stinkers or good writing but nasty 6] Golden Compass 6] Thomas Covant - first 2 books only. For top notch fantasy try 1] Titus Groane by Peake 2] King of Elflands Daughter by Dunsany; 3] Any by Lovecraft. 4] Conan and its sequels by Howard far better than any of the wannabes by Goodkind.

This is mostly Children's Fantasy. Some exceptions are the Malazan book of the Fallen series, Game of Thrones, life of pi, the chronicles of amber, and definitely the Thomas Covenant books (which I couldn't get into because the protagonist rapes someone, it is explained but its still pretty dumb)
