"This is a essentially a Matlab clone. It may not be capable of all the really advanced things that Matlab is, but for most of the everyday applications it is just as capable as Matlab. One of the nice features of Scilab is that it is free"

It looks like another good math & DSP toolkit. Octave is also a strong alternative to MATLAB.

A very good free Matlab-like software, upgraded every 6 months and with its own active Google Group : to try it is to adopt it.

Obviously, it is also cross-platform (available for Linux, Windows, Mac OS X, HP-UX, ...).

Is this too good to be true? I'll be back after downloading this apparently free science-math, etc. group. (Never mind...I clicked download and another screen gives me the option to get a "stable" edition and also lists problems on different systems. I don't know what all that means so forget it until more people review it here.)

Wow!

I'm personally a Mathematica person rather than a MatLab person, but this is open and awesome. Good stuff!
