Plants growing in oil are thriving over at T-Beb's Wetland Nursery in Montegut, Louisiana, thanks to a product developed by a green tech company called AvGro, headquartered in Scotsdale, AZ. It is an organic, mineral based product that creates an environment for carbon converting bacteria that are capable of breaking down oil and other toxic chemicals. It is cost effective and can be sprayed from a distance, saving wear and tear on the wetlands. BP and the U.S. Coast Guard have both been approached regarding further testing and its possible use in the gulf oil spill as a possible alternative to the synthetics currently in use.
