From the page: "TIKRIT Key tribal leaders from the Ubaidi and Anbakia tribes signed a peace agreement July 10 during a meeting at the Baqubah Government Center to end tribal conflicts that have been occurring for decades and stand together against al-Qaida and other terrorist organizations.
"The strength of the tribes comes from the sheiks courage." said Col. David W. Sutherland, commander, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division."
There's a sea change occurring in Iraq folks. We've been chipping away at the terrorist insurgency. Now however for the first time, masses of Iraqis from all walks of life are banding together all over the country to help take action against the terrorists. A big part of the reason why is because now with more troops in country we can maintain a presence in areas we've cleared of terrorists. This helps prevent them from simply coming back after we move to a new area, and murdering those who've helped the "infidels".
The Iraqi people see this, and are less afraid to make their anti al-qaida feelings known.
Oh, you didn't hear Katie Couric mention this little item of info? Hmmm, I wonder how she could've missed it?
Awesome military blog.
