Ergh. Overly sentimental bullshit.
This can be also used to show that you will only get the most out of life only if you are willing to step out your comfort zone =D
I am very confused by this. I get the concept but... just... no.
A little preachy, no? Because oversimplifying to induce fuzzy feelings solves everything! Woo World Peace!
Problem is the cartoonist is assuming the hatred only exists in the USA. Has he not seen what is currently happening in the Middle East? The world is not the friendliest place just because you extended your hand in friendship.
Maybe not the truth entirely, but I traveled to/lived in a lot of places as a kid growing up due to my dad's job and I really do think it made me a more open minded person. Getting to know other cultures, meeting people you wouldn't normally meet.. The trick is to go off the beaten path, try not to do the tourist thing.
Yeah--that's a realistic depiction of world travel--just a bunch of friendly people whose sole purpose to cure your bigotry. The problem is that the people that you actually come across will usually be bigoted in one way or another as well. It's true that travel expands the mind and gives perspective, but it's definitely not because everybody is singing Kumbaya and holding hands.
I wish bigotry were as easy to cure as simply making a trip around the world. Still, I liked the cartoon.
Pretty bold claim, there.
