6 seconds that changed the world. The original copyright owner went on to be a PhD in something or other, doesn't matter...but makes me smile when i think of the rip off artists who made a living from Amen who are now scraping a living after their talentless careers went down the tubes. Amen. With exception of Mantronix...and NWA, err i don't want a "Cap in my ass"

This is fascinating where the break originated. I've probably heard this in hundreds of different ways...Great history lesson for hip-hop/electronic culture

A very kewl little 20 minute documentary relaying the history of the Amen Break... Why watch it? Because breakbeats rocked my dancing days to killer grooves down at Speed (London) in the mid 1990s with the likes of Fabio, Bukem, Grooverider, DJ Lee, et al... spinning some of the best up front break driven grooves around... Without this break, we would never have had the killer cuts from Cert 18, Photek, Prototype, Good Looking, Metalheadz, Juice, Precious Materials, Basement, Reinforced, Juice Box, yada, yada...

someone is using this video to take on the topic of intellectual property in music and other genre. I will have to come back to this to view the whole thing.

Fascinating look at the world of sampling in music from the story of the Amen break. How indeed 6 seconds can last a very long time. That break will outlive us all. It has gone around this globe many times as part of tunes that has brought the people together. Amen indeed.
It also goes into the ownership of that sample and how the record companies have taken it away from the original source.
There is a lot to learn from this film, i highly recommend it

"Everything begins in mysticism and ends in politics."
Take, for example, a six second drum break from a song from 1969 called, "Amen, Brother," a funk/soul cover of a gospel tune. These six seconds of solo drum kit playing went on to be the raw material for some of the most innovative music of the last couple of decades, then worked thier way into the zeitgeist and popular culture. This video ends talking about the demise of sample-based music as copyright laws are being geared to take all rights from end-users and artists making derived work.

Particularly interesting is the second half of the video, looking into copyright and the Amen Break, culture, and markets, money.
