Most of the Founders were Deists.
TRUTH be told....there were Christians and Deists. If you do not understand what a Deist is, I assure you, they are NOT Christians. Do a bit of research.
Now if only every citizen of the U.S. would just READ this and research the truth of it. Nothing is more aggravating to me than to hear "Christians" spewing the blatant LIE that this country was founded on Christianity or Christian principles. Clearly some of the founders were Christian, but indeed all were NOT, and the only mention of religion in the Constitution is in regards to keeping it an entirely separate entity from state and government. Anyone stating otherwise is nothing more than a Christian propagandist.
"Christians" have no more rights in this country than anyone else. They simply have bigger flapping jaws, most of the time.
The American Revolution is my favorite period in history. I'd love to go back in time and live it myself.
There were some Christian founding fathers, yes, but they did not try to impose their religion.
I can think for myself, and I say that some of the founding fathers *were* Christians. The author of this site is obviously not an authority on the Bible, so his use of Scripture to propel his argument shows his lack of understanding of the Bible.
It would appear he has neither studied Christianity or the Bible in detail. It would also appear he has never taken any responsible Christian ethics class in which organized rebellion/revolt is acceptable under specific guidelines.
It did make for an interesting read, though, albeit skewed.
"Light houses are more useful then churches." -Benjamin Franklin
"This would be the best of all possible worlds if there were no religion in it!" -John Adams
"Christianity is the most perverted system that ever shone on man." -Thomas Jefferson
i'm tired of sites like these. there were many Christian AND Deist founding fathers. Sites on both sides of the argument only show the opinions of a few of the founding fathers and neglect to quote those of the other beliefs. Howabout a nice study of ALL writings by ALL founding fathers and give an intellectually honest display and comparison of what the founding fathers believed.
Need it be said again? The Founding Fathers were not Christians.
From the page: "One of the most common statements from the "Religious Right" is that they want this country to "return to the Christian principles on which it was founded". However, one only needs to do a little research into American history to discover that this statement is a lie. The men responsible for building the foundation of the United States had little use for Christianity, and many were strongly opposed to it. They were men of The Enlightenment, not Men of Christianity. They were Deists."
