Astronauts always give the excuse of "near limitless natural resources" and "the future of human civilization" as the reasons to continue space travel. I think the real reason is that they can't stand not being able to see whats out their with their own eyes. Astronaut quite literally means "sailor of the stars". our generation is the Magellan of the heavens.
