The Stanford Prison Experiment was highly flawed and bordered on pseudoscience. Zimbardo has been a shameless media whore and his experiment was unprofessional.
It's depressing when I find my theories regarding humanity proven correct.
Understanding the actions of others (As stated by "Hide-n-Seek") does not condone embracing them...what a horrible concept...Ignoring those in distress...Good grief!
Ever been harassed by a cop who acted like a major douchebag, pushing you around for no reason? Science says that if the roles were reversed, you'd likely act the same way.
It's not that humans are evil.
Recently, I saw an article about a toddler hit and run. The author was convinced that the passers by were cruel and apathetic, when, in actuality, the event was a clear example of the bystander effect. Because there were so many witnesses of the event, people assumed someone else would take charge, or they were afraid of taking charge and putting themselves in the spotlight. As surprising as it seems, these responses are natural. If more people knew a little bit about psychology, we might have a better understanding of others' actions and embrace the common, human family.
the worst one is the experiment with the shock
Ah yes, social psych. Making you depressed and liking it since the downfall of the behavioral paradigm.
Waw like this
I've always stumbled on lists of these experimentes a thousand times, but it's useful to be constantly reminded that I can't trust other humans.
lol makes psychology funny
Group mentality is depressing...
"Well, it's a good thing I'm a rebellious non-conformist," many of you are saying. Of course, for virtually all of you, the next step is to find out what the other non-conformists are doing ...
... and make sure you conform to it perfectly.
Well if i needed another reason to lose faith in humanity...
In the end, humans are an evil lot :
Realise that the only way this will change is if YOU be the good Samaritan, and go out of your way to help other people even when it brings you hardship.
Wow - we ARE doomed - basically we're selfish and conformist, we're prone to apathy, and fear reprisal - not a pretty picture.
From the page: "Remember a few years ago when cameras captured at least a dozen cars refusing to stop for an injured woman laying in the road? " ... holy shit
