This made me really sad.
I have a brother who is like that
Calvin and Hobbes, Calvin growing up. Sad, isn't it?
aww :( Sad.
There is a difference between being lively and silly and being disruptive and impulsive. The latter can cause intelligent kids to fail at school and have big problems with social situations. It's called ADHD. Calvin doesn't have ADHD.
Why do we place such a premium on "fitting in with society"? Is there no room for individuality? Is social conformity really so essential to us? .:. My daughter is odd. No question about that. During a spelling bee that she recently participated in, she made bird noises after every right answer, causing heads to crane round all over the room. She would certainly not fit into a conventional classroom; she'd be called disruptive, and rightly so: Children with hyperlexia don't easily fit into institutional surroundings. This is precisely why we home-school her. She may never "fit in." She will definitely never be a fully assimilated conformist. But this doesn't mean she can't find success on her own terms.
P.S.: She won the spelling bee.
