A helpful website to see how secure is your password; really?

This is the best visualization of how password complexity effects brute force attacks that I have seen.
Sure, let me just type my password here on this strange website on the internet. What harm could come of that?

Hey folks do you know about SU security features? If you type your password into a message it will just show asterisks instead of what you typed. See here is my password *************.
No, this is a common joke in discussion boards and chat rooms. Those of you who entered you real password on this site likely would fall for this though. Consider yourselves warned - don't fall for crap like this.
FBI honeypot general?
If you decide to input your password here, I can already tell you that your browsing habits are NOT SECURE.
Also, how are they able to judge how fast a desktop computer would be able to crack any given password? As far as I know, it completely depends on the software used for cracking, dictionary file used, and even more importantly the method of encryption and types of salts used on the database where the password is stored. Even a reasonably complex password to be cracked in a matter of minutes with just basic software if it's hashed with something insecure like unsalted MD5.
There are other much more credible password cryptologic strength calculators put out by people like GRC. Check them out if you're interested in that stuff.
This is a really useful site!
About 197 sesvigintillion years
i'm no computer science guy but this seems pretty inaccurate. adding an asterisk to the end of any password apparently multiplies the time it takes to hack it by a factor of 10000
