I live near a major six-lane highway; three lanes in each direction. In theory, the right lane is for merging from the entrances and exits, the middle lane is for traffic, and the left lane is for passing. In actual practice, the right lane is for slow traffic, the middle lane is for fast traffic, and the left lane is for suicidally fast traffic and clueless old people.
