These are hilarious and awesome at the same time.
So the artist paints his interpretation of the native Jovians who have to be INCREDIBLY STRONG because of the gravity. Like the description says, he gives them stubby little, muscular legs that don't even get their body off the ground, giving them just enough mobility to drag themselves about. And long, spindly toothpicks for arms, good for picking up ... leaves... pieces of paper... if they're capable of making paper, since they wouldn't be able to lift a hammer. LOL
It is nice to see how those in the early 1900's thought other life forms may appear. These designs seem as though they came from a mind and time which were much more simple and innocent.
Nice to see such optimistic takes on First Contact - no ravening xenomorphs in the 1940s.
