Savory, crumbly, warm, sweet, flaky, melting, oozing, delectable.
Or, in one word: pie.
Let’s be honest, everyone loves a delicious pie. But with this delicious dessert comes the daunting task of trying to decide exactly what pie to make in the first place. So many options! A sweet pie of berries, pumpkin, or chocolate? Cream, sorbet, or some savory type of filling? Graham cracker, Oreo crumbles or flaky crust? The options are endless and you can’t really go wrong (pie is amazing, period), but sometimes you need a little help finding the inspiration for that perfect pie recipe..
We thought to ourselves, if StumbleUpon helps you find the best content on the web, why not use it to find the best pie recipes on the web? We here at StumbleUpon love pie almost as much as we love StumbleUpon, so any excuse (*cough* February is National Pie Month *cough*) to put the two together was met with open arms, hearts, and mouths.
This past Tuesday we had our first foodie showdown with our StumbleUpon Pie Bake-Off. Employees were asked to use the Explore Box to Stumble unique recipes for pie, bake their favorite, and then share them with the rest of the company for the chance to win bragging rights as our in-house pie chef extraordinaire.
Our taste buds were afire and our office was filled with the various flavors and aromas of pie in this fierce competition. Employees faced a difficult decision in picking a victor with such a wide range of pie flavors to decide between – from raspberry sorbet to salted caramel apple to minced meat. See how it played out in the pictures below:
The contestants: Banana Chocolate Pudding Pie, Uncovered Blueberry Pie, Buttermilk Pie (Porch Pie), Salted Caramel Apple Pie, Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie, Cheddar-Topped Cottage Pie and Frozen Chocolate-Raspberry Pie
The winners across several categories including Best Presentation, Best Sweet Pie, and Best Savory Pie. Angela, one of the members of our sales team, was the ultimate winner with the award for Best Tasting Pie for her Buttermilk Pie (Porch Pie).
Ultimately everyone was a winner and we all rewarded ourselves with an afternoon food coma. For those wanting a little pie-spiration, here’s how the awards went down:
Best Tasting Pie – Buttermilk Pie (Porch Pie)
Best Savory Pie – Cheddar-Topped Cottage Pie
Best Sweet Pie – Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie
Best Presentation – Banana Chocolate Pudding Pie
Best No-Bake Pie – Frozen Chocolate-Raspberry Pie
Best Crust – Salted Caramel Apple Pie
Best Fruit Pie – Uncovered Blueberry Pie
